They have to work 14 hours a day with low wages, fines of ½ days pay if late and disgusting working conditions including working with yellow and white toxic and flammable phosphorous substances. The white phosphorous vapor lead to a condition called Phossy Jaw. This condition caused brain damage, swelling gums and abscessed jawbones (pus). Phossy Jaw deformed many who had it and smelled awful from the rotting/decaying jawbone. Also the face turned green then black from Phossy Jaw. Other diseases and deformations that occurred were yellowing of the skin and loss of hair. The factory was also the largest in London with red brick walls and large rectangular glass windows.

howdy Ying,
Your story sounds really good! The plot is great and there is alot of exteranl conflict, it might just be me but there is only a little internal conflict. This might be what you want, but that is just something I noticed. Also how old is Lily? That is very sad that her friend dies, but very realistic! Iam not sure if my ending is relaistic so I might change it, but back to you. What happens to Lily's family, do they join her in the activism or continue the lives they had before Lily protested? I also really like how many characters you have in your story because it really makes the plot come alive. Well...enough of my yapping. Your idea for the story is really cool!

Hey Ying,
Your story is a lot more well-written and touching (sniff sniff) than mine. I loved it! I suppose Bert will want me to suggest something, so here goes--make sure that Lily is not perfect. I'm glad she is kind, (you don't want a mean main character), but make her realistic. Happy Writing!
